Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara arrested on battery charges
Las Vegas, Nevada – New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested and booked for "substantial" battery charges.
On Sunday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) posted a news release on Twitter stating that Kamara (26) had been booked at the Clark County Detention Center on battery charges.
According to the statement, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a local hospital on Saturday evening, where the victim was reporting a battery that resulted in "substantial bodily harm."
The alleged battery took place at a nightclub on South Las Vegas Boulevard on the eve of Sunday's NFL Pro Bowl, which Kamara did play in prior to being taken into police custody "without incident."
ESPN reported that shortly after being booked, Kamara was released on bond, and his court date is set for March 8.
If convicted, Kamara could face one to five years in state prison.
The investigation into the battery charges is still ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact LVMPD detectives.
Kamara was drafted to the Saints in the third round in 2017, and went on to win NFL Rookie of the Year during his first season. The former Tennessee Volunteer has been a Pro Bowler in all five of his NFL seasons.
Neither Kamara's representatives nor the Saints have commented on the arrest.
