Oregon football lands two five-star prospects on early signing day
Eugene, Oregon - Matayo Uiagalelei, the younger brother of former Clemson starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, has committed to the Oregon Ducks, joining five-star Peyton Bowen, who flipped from Notre Dame on the first day of college football's early signing day.
The five-star edge prospect Uiagalelei out of California committed to Oregon over the likes of Ohio State and USC.
The announcement was revealed by his high school football coach as Uiagalelei was sick and needed to receive a blood transfusion, which left him unable to attend the ceremony at St. John Bosco High School.
Uiagalelei tallied 7.5 sacks and three receiving touchdowns this past season, capping his year with the CIF Open Division championship title.
Ranked as the No. 2 edge in the country, Uiagalelei will be joined by five-star defensive back Peyton Bowen, who flipped from Notre Dame to Oregon on Wednesday also.
Bowen committed to Notre Dame for nearly a year before shockingly switching his pledge to the Ducks.
The defensive back posted five interceptions this year on the field and contributed in the running game and on special teams for Guyer High School football.
Bowen led his Wildcats' football team to a 14-2 season record and the Texas 6A D-II state runner-up finish.
