Ohio State lineman Avery Henry reveals heartbreaking cancer diagnosis
Columbus, Ohio - Ohio State freshman offensive lineman Avery Henry has been diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, he announced on social media Monday night.
The Ohio native Henry revealed that he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer most commonly found in teenagers and young adults.
"This isn’t the way I wanted to release this, but I know no other way," he began the post.
"A couple days ago I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. I will fight this! I have never been a statistic and I never will! I want to thank my brothers and coaches for the endless support!"
Following his announcement, Henry received an out pour of messages of support, including from his Buckeye teammates like offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and running back Dallan Hayden.
"We love you brother, we are with you in this fight!," Johnson tweeted, while Henry added: "You got this brother … we all here for ya!!"
Ohio State football also shared its support for Henry on Twitter: "On behalf of the Ohio State Football family, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time."
The 6-foot-6, three-star prospect joined the Buckeyes in June after decomitting from Iowa State. Henry did not play for the Buckeyes this season.
Ohio State football has advanced to the College Football Playoff and will face the Georgia Bulldogs in the semifinal Peach Bowl on New Year's Eve at 8PM EST.
