Miami Hurricanes basketball snags top center Michael Nwoko
Coral Gables, Florida - With the commitment of Michael Nwoko, the Miami Hurricanes basketball program has landed its first pledge of the 2023 recruiting class.
The North Carolina native picked the University of Miami on Thursday over a final list of schools that included Georgia Tech, Providence, Northwestern, High Point, and Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot-10 big man currently plays for powerhouse basketball program Prolific Preparatory in California, which has developed NBA players like Jalen Green and Gary Trent Jr.
Ranked as the16th-best center in the state of California, Nwoko has begun to develop a mid-range shot that makes him highly versatile at the college level.
In June, the 3.8 GPA student-athlete played for Team Canada’s U18 team at the FIBA Americas championship, where he averaged 12 points and eight rebounds in that tournament. He posted 20 points and seven rebounds in the third-place game against Argentina.
As a freshman, Nwoko will be a major boost to the team’s frontcourt that is projected to make an immediate impact in the team's overall performance.
Last season, Miami finished with a 26-11 record and reached the Elite Eight for the first time in school history before losing to the eventual national champions – Kansas.
