LSU Tigers' Kayshon Boutte to miss Week 4 action after big family development
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - LSU star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will miss Saturday's Week 4 game against New Mexico after the birth of his child.
On Thursday, Boutte and his girlfriend welcomed a baby boy into the world.
LSU football made the announcement Thursday evening via Twitter, saying head coach Brian Kelly excused Boutte from action against the Lobos on Saturday so he can be with his family.
"I've excused him from playing this weekend and we wish him and his new mom all the best. I just wanted to make sure so we didn't get a whirlwind of rumors and innuendo flashing before Saturday when you didn't see him on the sideline," Kelly said.
The 20-year-old receiver took to Instagram to share that his son had been born and that he was "beyond blessed" and "wasn't nervous at all."
"Its been a long 9 months waiting but you finally here lil man," Boutte captioned. "You are what i needed in my life. Glad i finally get to meet you, We love you."
Kayshon Boutte looking to rebound after a rough season start
While the former No. 1 recruit's slow start to the season led many questioning his future as a Tiger, Boutte has the potential to climb into the upper reaches of the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a true freshman, he led as one of the best wideouts in the nation that posted the SEC record of 308 receiving yards in a single game. That year, Boutte racked up 45 catches for 735 yards to close his freshman campaign.
Last season, the Tigers' starter had nine touchdown catches through six games before an ankle injury sidelined him for the second half of the year.
Now in his junior season, Boutte will look to make a strong comeback to the field for what many believe will be his last collegiate season.
The Louisiana native is projected to enter the draft at the end of the football year as a potential top pick in the first round.
The Tigers are set to host the New Mexico Lobos Saturday at 7:30 PM EDT.
