Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Mavericks shook things up on Sunday after it was reported that NBA star Kyrie Irving may be headed to the heart of Texas as part of a major trade deal.

Less than 24 hours after LeBron James seemingly voiced his interest in Irving potentially joining his Lakers squad, news broke that the Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets may have made a deal.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, unnamed sources said the Mavericks will send Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round draft pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029 to the Nets in exchange for Irving and Markieff Morris.

Wojnarowski also reported that Irving is expected to arrive in Dallas on Monday for a physical, with the hope of making his Mavericks debut when the team faces off against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

Though the sources said the Nets and the Lakers had several conversations about making a potential deal, at the end of the day, it seems Brooklyn preferred the package Dallas brought to the table.

Details of the apparent deal in terms of structure, length, and Irving's pay have not yet been revealed, and Irving, the Nets, nor the Mavericks have officially commented on the trade news.

If everything pans out, things may be get even more interesting in Dallas with Irving joining powerhouse Luka Dončić on the court.

Kyrie Irving's time with the Nets was full of highs and lows

Irving spent the last four seasons with the Nets alongside Kevin Durant, though his time with the team was rather tumultuous.

From refusing to take the Covid-19 vaccine and missing out on many of the Nets' games because of it, to seemingly shouting out a film that's widely considered to have antisemitic themes, it's been quite the bumpy ride.

However, after failing to reach an agreement with the Nets on a potential contract extension, Irving put in a trade request earlier in the week.
