The Heat's Jimmy Butler is known for living up to his franchise's name.

Whether the star player is bringing the fire on the court, or gassing up one of his infamous beefs with other players, Butler is no stranger to drama.

So it seems fitting that his new hairstyle should provide a major talking point. This week, the Heat star took to Instagram to debut long dreadlocks adorned with highlights.

The six-time All-Star took control of the narrative after skills coach Chris Brickley first made the surprising reveal via an Instagram post. Butler, who previously sported short cornrow braids, gave fans the full picture on Wednesday with a video showcasing his transformation.

On Thursday, he posted another clip from training after going through "a dreadful workout... no pun intended."

It's unclear for now whether Butler will keep his new hairdo for the regular season. The reaction on NBA Twitter may help him decide, as users predictably had a field day with comparisons ranging from Mekhi Phifer in 8 Mile to Terrence Howard in Empire.

Last season, Butler averaged 27.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game during the postseason. He led the top-seeded Heat to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to the Boston Celtics.
