Deshaun Watson's assault settlements reportedly stall over NDAs
Houston, Texas - New developments in the Deshaun Watson sexual assault scandal claim negotiations involving potential nondisclosure agreements may have fizzled between all involved parties.
Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson’s (26) legal woes remain ever so troubling, as his settlement deals with the 22 individual women suing him for sexual misconduct have fallen by the wayside this week.
Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing all 22 women, confirmed that negotiations for case settlements came to an end leading up to the NFL’s trade deadline this past Tuesday, according to ESPN.
"In what was submitted to us, there were nondisclosure agreements and many of the women pushed back on those," Buzbee told local Houston television station Fox 26 on Wednesday.
Apparently, there was particular language used in the proposed NDAs that made a number of the women uncomfortable.
Buzbee explained that after receiving proposals from Watson’s side, he and his legal team made efforts to "substantially" change the wording within the proposals, but "there were still some women who said, 'I'm never going to sign that.'"
He also said that Watson's team appeared willing to settle at least a portion of the 22 civil cases, "but based on the terms that were submitted to us, we weren't going to get 22 settlements. Period."
Rumors have been circulating that the breakdown of negotiations also led to Watson not being traded out of Houston by Tuesday afternoon's trade deadline.
Now, Watson could very likely find himself having to give testimony with a jury present in February of next year.
In addition, Watson is also facing at least 10 criminal complaints filed with the Houston Police Department, which currently has an active investigation ongoing.
Rusty Hardin, the lead attorney representing Watson, has yet to respond to any of Buzbee’s recent statements or claims.
