Brittney Griner's wife breaks social media silence with touching IG post

Washington (USA) - Basketball player Brittney Griner's wife, Cherelle Griner, thanked her supporters via Instagram days after the athlete was released in exchange for arms dealer Viktor Bout.

"Yesterday my heart was completed again thanks to the collective efforts of so MANY!" Cherelle Griner wrote in an IG post on Monday.

The post featured a collage of photos to honor all the supporters who have helped the Griner over the past year.

Among others, Cherelle listed the President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and many of the "hands that made it possible" for Cherelle to be reunited with her wife.

The couple has been married since 2019, and after several traumatic months and a full 294 days in Russian captivity, Brittany and Cherelle are hoping to take some restorative time off.

In her post, Cherelle speaks of a "journey to heal our bodies and souls."

Although Brittney Griner herself has not yet spoken publicly, it can be assumed how relieved and happy she is.

More than 50 people thanked Cherelle in her Instagram post, including several organizations such as the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, which works to secure the release of wrongfully imprisoned US citizens, and the Office of the President's Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs (SPEHA).

For the first time since being arrested and imprisoned, Brittney has resumed light training per ESPN, but it is still unclear whether she will continue her career as a WNBA basketball player.

Brittney has been part of the WNBA at Phoenix Mercury since 2013.

Her advisor Lindsey Kagawa Colas explained in an interview with ESPN, "She has the holidays to rest and decide what's next with no pressure. She's doing really, really well. She seems to have endured this in a pretty incredible way."
