Baltimore Ravens lose another player as Michael Pierce undergoes surgery
Baltimore, Maryland - Baltimore Ravens nose tackle Michael Pierce underwent arm surgery on Thursday and become the fourth Ravens player of the season to suffer a season-ending injury.
On Sunday, Pierce tore his left bicep in the Ravens' 37-26 win over the New England Patriots.
The replacement of long-time nose tackle Brandon Williams could have chosen to play with the injury and have surgery following the season, but decided Wednesday night to move forwards with the operation, which means Pierce will miss the entire 2022-23 NFL season.
The 29-year-old joins cornerback Kyle Fuller, offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James, and outside linebacker Steven Means as Baltimore players who will be sidelined this year.
Throughout his six-year NFL career, durability has been one of Pierce's biggest issues on the field.
Last season with the Minnesota Vikings, he missed seven games with a triceps injury and sat two more to non-Covid illness.
In 2020, Pierce opted out of the entire season due to the pandemic and has last played a full season in 2017.
With the roster getting thinner by the week, the Ravens will look for Broderick Washington to step up to the starting role as nose tackle.
