ACC Conference Week 1: Clemson Tigers prepare to roar back

Clemson, South Carolina - After a disappointing 2021 season, the Clemson Tigers will return to the ACC Conference aiming to restore the dominance that the program is known for.

For the first time in over a decade, the Tigers are coming off a season that was well below their standards.

They finished 10-3 and had their historic streak of six consecutive ACC titles and six consecutive College Football Playoff berths come to an end.

As a result, Clemson spent much of their offseason working on the two main factors that led to last year's struggle: their offense and players health.

Now, head coach Dabo Swinney feels good about his team's season projection - especially since the program surprisingly jumped 10 spots from last season's preseason ranking.

With the roaring Tigers coming in loud at No. 4 in the nation, here is what to expect from Clemsons in their season open Week 1 of college football.

For Clemson to get back to College Football Playoff shape, their offense will need some major changes and upgrades beginning with their starting quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei.

Even with the junior being pushed by five-star freshman, Cade Klubnik, coach Swinney has set the record straight that the starting quarterback position is Uiagalelei's – for now.

The 21-year-old struggled in his first full season as a starter last year. From being an early-season Heisman favorite, he finished the year with more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (nine) and only completed 55.6% of passes thrown, ranking 98th nationally.

As a team, Clemson's passing offense was only at No. 103 in yards per game.

Following their offseason changes and preparation, it's the Tigers' offense scheme that football fans and critics will scrutinize most closely.

With first year offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter, a much healthier offensive line, and the return of their top three running-backs – Will Shipley, Kobe Pace, and Phil Mafah – the Tigers just might be able to live up to their unexpectedly high preseason rank.

No. 4 Clemson will travel to Georgia Tech for their season opener on September 5. The game kickoff is set for 8 PM EDT.
