Ted Cruz gets a taste of his own medicine after criticizing Texas Dems who left the state
Austin, Texas – If anyone knows a thing or two about Texas politicians leaving the state, it's Ted Cruz. Did that stop him from leveling criticism? Of course not.
Not even a full half year has passed since Texas Senator Ted Cruz came under fire for fleeing the state during a deadly winter storm.
Cruz infamously jetted off to Cancun, Mexico, with his family while millions of Texans suffered without heat, water, and electricity.
That didn't stop Cruz from lashing out at the Texas Democrats who flew to Washington DC to block a restrictive voting bill, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Far from having a relaxing vacation in the nation's capital, the state representatives and senators have been holding meetings with federal legislators and Vice President Kamala Harris, advocating for national voting protections.
Nevertheless, in an interview with Fox News, Cruz slammed the Democrats: "I will say it's ironic. As they were getting on their private jet to fly to Washington DC, they almost surely had to show identification to get on that jet, and yet they're doing this in a fit because they don't want mail-in ballots to be verified. They don't want the signatures to be identified. They don't want basic integrity steps to be strengthened in the state of Texas."
"This is at the end of the day politics, and they need to get back to doing their jobs," he concluded.
Critics were quick to point out the irony in Cruz's remarks
But critics were quick to point out the true irony in Cruz's remarks, saying he has no business criticizing the Dems after he left during February's fatal storm.
Former San Antonio Mayor and US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro tweeted, "Texas Democrats left the state to fight for voting rights. Ted Cruz left the state to sip drinks on a Cancun beach. I'd sit this one out, Ted."
Georgia Rep. Hank Johnson added, "If it's one thing Ted Cruz knows about, it's jet setting. Reminds you of when he abandoned his duty to the people of Texas when he left in the middle of a winter storm to go to Cancun."
It's all quite "ironic" indeed.
