Footage from US border shows children being dropped in from the top of 14-foot fence

Santa Teresa, New Mexico – In jarring video footage caught by US Customs and Border Patrol cameras, two people are seen dropping small children from atop the 14-foot border wall, leaving them to fend for themselves on American soil.

A three-year-old and five-year-old were found wandering the desert outside of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, after being detected on-camera by a Border Patrol agent. With the use of mobile technology, officers were able to locate and rescue the children.

The first sighting of the young girls was on a security camera, which showed them being dropped across the 14-foot fence at the US-New Mexico border and left to continue on their own.

In a press release from Thursday, El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said: "I'm appalled by the way these smugglers viciously dropped innocent children from a 14-foot border barrier last night."

"If not for the vigilance of our agents using mobile technology, these two tender-aged siblings would have been exposed to the harsh elements of the desert environment for hours."

After the children were on their feet, the persons who left them there took off. Border patrol agents are working alongside Mexican authorities to find the suspected smugglers.

Ongoing issues at the border

The new development adds to the ongoing challenges at the border. With holding centers beginning to overflow with migrant children, it's become a hot button item in US politics, especially amongst Republicans.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and Senator John Cornyn have been speaking out on the issue. Last week, KLTV7 news reported that Gov. Abbott sent President Joe Biden a letter calling for him to visit the centers and hold traffickers accountable.

Biden has tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with leading the administration's southern border response.
