Austin, Texas – Bernie Sanders clearly has his eyes set on Texas with another big endorsement ahead of the primaries – this time for congressional candidate Greg Casar.

On Monday, Sanders announced he was endorsing Jessica Cisneros in the Democratic primary for Texas' 28th congressional district.

That same day, the Vermont senator declared his support for progressive candidate Greg Casar, who is running in the 35th congressional district, which stretches from Austin along I-35 to San Antonio.

"Greg Casar is building a grassroots movement for real change from San Antonio to Austin," Sanders said. "As a former labor organizer, I know he’ll fight for working families in Congress. That is why I’m proud to endorse him in the race for Texas’s 35th Congressional District."

"Texas working families need a representative who will show up and fight for them – someone who will work to pass Medicare for All, stand up to corporate special interests, protect reproductive rights, and fix our grid," Casar said in response. "I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has led a movement across our country. I look forward to working with him to deliver for TX-35 residents."

Both Cisneros and Casar received the support of AOC at a rally in San Antonio on Saturday. The New York congresswoman then traveled to Austin for a rally with Casar in the capital city on Sunday.

Sanders' endorsement is the cherry on top of a very successful weekend for the Casar campaign.

The Texas primaries are set to take place on March 1. Early voting is already underway.
