Nancy Pelosi confirms her campaign plans for the midterm election
Washington DC - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Tuesday she intends to run for a seat in the US House of Representatives again in November.
"While we have made progress much more needs to be done to improve people’s lives. This election is crucial: nothing less is at stake than our Democracy," Pelosi said in a statement and a video released on Twitter.
"But we don’t agonize – we organize," Pelosi added. "I am running for re-election to Congress to deliver For The People and defend Democracy."
Pelosi (81) has represented her constituency in San Francisco for more than 30 years.
As House speaker, she holds the third-highest elected office in the US behind the president and vice-president.
Pelosi has been an important ally of President Joe Biden, a fellow Democrat.
All seats in the House of Representatives and about a third of the seats in the US Senate will be up for re-election in November's midterm elections.
The Democrats hope to defend or expand their narrow majority in both chambers. However, polls currently give the Republicans a good chance of securing the majority.
