Biden administration announces plans for Trump's border wall billions

Washington DC – President Joe Biden's administration plans to carry out military construction projects with the $2.2 billion that Donald Trump wanted to use to build a border wall.

The White House and Pentagon said Friday the plans restore the original purpose of the funds that Biden's predecessor reallocated from the defense budget for walls along the border with Mexico.

Biden suspended funding for Trump's border project in January as one of his first acts in office.

The Pentagon listed 66 construction projects at home and abroad that the funding will go towards.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it plans to use funds provided by Congress directly for border security to address safety and environmental problems caused by the construction of border walls during the Trump administration.

DHS is required legally required to use the funds for their appropriated purpose but is seeking to avoid wall expansion. The department said the money will be used for clean-up work at construction sites.

Before he was elected president in 2016, Trump promised to build a wall along the nearly 2,000-mile southern border to keep out undocumented immigrants.

Congress denied him funding for the project, but Trump circumvented the block by reallocating billions from the defense budget.

Part of Trump's original promise was that Mexico would pay for the wall, but it never happened.
