House Speaker Mike Johnson makes bizarre online porn admission in resurfaced video
Benton, Louisiana - House Speaker Mike Johnson revealed in a recently resurfaced clip that he and his son monitor each other's online porn usage.
The newly elected speaker said he and his family are longtime users of Covenant Eyes, a software designed to help people quit watching porn by compiling reports on internet activity and sending those to another person who can monitor usage.
Speaking at the Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana, Johnson added that his son Jack, 17 years old at the time of the video, is his personal "accountability partner."
That means neither father nor son can access porn on their registered devices without the other knowing about it.
"[Covenant Eyes] scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, your laptop, what have you – we do all of it," Johnson says in the clip, taken during a War on Technology event at the church in October 2022.
"[Jack] and I get a report about all the things that are on our phones, all of our devices, once a week," he continues. "If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice. I'm proud to tell you, my son has got a clean slate."
Mike Johnson's porn monitoring activities spark data security concerns
Apart from the weirdness of the situation, Johnson's revelation has also sparked concerns about data security.
"A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching….," Receipt Maven wrote on X. "I mean, who else is accessing that data?"
Before becoming a congressman, Mike Johnson worked for Alliance Defending Freedom, a rightwing Christian organization that supports overturning gay marriage, enacting a total abortion ban, and severely limiting transgender rights.
