Trump rails about "witch hunt" ahead of New York grand jury review
New York, New York - A grand jury has been selected to review criminal evidence against the Trump Organization, and Donald Trump is not happy about it.
"This is a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American history," Trump wrote on his blog on Tuesday following the announcement of the grand jury seating.
"No other President in history has had to put up with what I have had to, and on top of all that, I have done a great job for our Country, whether it’s taxes, regulations, our Military, Veterans, Space Force, our Borders, speedy creation of a great vaccine (said to be a miracle!), and protecting the Second Amendment," he continued.
"This is purely political, and an affront to the almost 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election, and it’s being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors."
According to The Hill, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. and New York Attorney General Letitia James are collaborating on investigations into the Trump Organization, which they say have now taken on a "criminal capacity."
They are reportedly looking into whether the company inflated property values to investors and whether it paid the proper amount of taxes.
The grand jury will meet three days a week over the next six months. They will likely study evidence including Trump's tax returns.
Depending on how the case progresses, the legal issues could throw a wrench in Trump's possible 2024 campaign for a return to the presidency.
