Trump lawyers say Clarence Thomas was their "only chance" to "frame things" and block the 2020 election

Washington DC - Emails between attorneys on former president Donald Trump's legal team have revealed attempts to get Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to help them block the certification of the 2020 election.

In a series of emails obtained by Politico, Trump's legal team discusses ways to derail Joe Biden from being certified as president.

In one email from December 31, 2020, Trump's attorney Kenneth Chesebro writes to the Trump legal team that a favorable ruling was "key."

He went on to describe Thomas as "our only chance to get a favorable judicial opinion by Jan. 6, which might hold up the Georgia count in Congress."

"We want to frame things so that Thomas could be the one to issue some sort of stay or other circuit justice opinion saying Georgia is in legitimate doubt," Chesebro also wrote.

Attorney John Eastman responded that same day, "I think I agree with this," adding that the move would "kick the Georgia legislature into gear" with helping to overturn the election results.

Last week, Eastman's lawyers were ordered by a court to turn over emails to the January 6 committee, who are investigating possible crimes committed by Trump and his affiliates.

In a separate email, attorney Kenneth Chesebro admits that their plans were unlikely to go through, and shared that he believed the success rate was "1%."
