Trump accuses LeBron James of "racist rants" following Ma'Khia Bryant police shooting
Palm Beach, Florida – Donald Trump had harsh words for LeBron James following the basketball star's comments on the police shooting of a 16-year-old girl in Ohio.
"LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League," the ex-president wrote in a statement.
Trump was responding to James' tweet after the shooting of Ma'Khia Bryant by Columbus police, the New York Post reported.
The teen's death came just before Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder in the killing of George Floyd.
The athlete's post demanded accountability in the case of Ma'Khia Bryant. It featured a picture of Nicholas Reardon, who has been identified as the officer who shot the teenager, along with the text "YOU'RE NEXT."
The post received heavy backlash from many sides.
James has since deleted the tweet, saying it was only fomenting more hate.
Nevertheless, Trump wrote of the Ohio native: "His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!"
