Donald Trump faces lawsuit for death of Capitol police officer!
Washington DC - The partner of the late Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick has filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump and the two rioters that injured her husband during the January 6 insurrection.
Sandra Garza, Sicknick's longtime partner, reportedly filed a wrongful death suit on Thursday seeking $10 million in damages each from Trump, and the two men convicted of assaulting Sicknick, Julian Khater and George Tanios.
The suit alleges that Trump knowingly spread lies and misinformation leading up to the January 6 riots, inciting the crowd to violence.
It adds that Khater and Tanios heeded Trump's call that day, as they battled with officers. Sicknick and other officers were defending the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol when Khater sprayed Sicknick in the face with bear spray that was supplied by Tanios.
A day later, on January 7, Sicknick passed away after suffering from two strokes. In April 2020, medical examiner Francisco J. Diaz ruled that he died of "natural causes," though he later told the Washington Post that the events of the day before "played a role in his condition."
In a statement released following Sicknick's death, Capitol Police said the officer "died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol."
Julian Khater and George Tanios are still awaiting sentences for their roles in the death of officer Brian Sicknick.
