Donald Trump bizarrely identifies E. Jean Carroll as ex-wife during deposition for trial
New York, New York - Former President Donald Trump mistook a photo of E. Jean Carroll, the journalist who accused him of rape, for one of his ex-wives during a deposition for their defamation trial.
According to court documents of the deposition that were unsealed on Wednesday by the US District Court for Southern New York, Carroll's lawyer showed Trump an old black and white photo of him and Carroll together.
"That's Marla, yeah," he responded, referring to Carroll. "That's my wife."
"No, that's Carroll," Trump's lawyer Alina Habba chimed in, correcting the mistake.
Trump confused Carroll for his ex-wife Marla Maples, the second of his three wives, which he was married to from 1993 to 1999. The two share one child together – Tiffany Trump.
Carroll's defamation lawsuit against Trump expected to go to trial
Carroll, a longtime writer for Elle magazine, has made claims that Trump raped her in a department store in Manhattan in the mid 90s.
During his presidency, Trump denied the allegations while calling her a liar, insulting her appearance, and claiming she's "not my type."
She responded by filing a defamation lawsuit in 2019, arguing that his comments harmed her reputation.
E. Jean Carroll's lawsuit against Donald Trump is expected to go to trial in April.
