The self-proclaimed "loud and proud Democrat" announced his candidacy in a video posted on Twitter.

"These days, my life looks a lot more like yours than Justin Bieber's, I can promise you," Aiken said in the video.

This marks the second time Aiken has run for office, following a failed 2014 run for a House seat in North Carolina.

However, the American Idol runner-up has his sights set on a more liberal district this time around in the state's newly redrawn sixth District that's currently represented by Rep. David E. Price, who is not seeking reelection this year.

Aiken's official campaign website states, "Clay is a strong Democrat running for Congress to give a voice to those who want to bring sanity and civility back to the political conversation."

Over the last two decades, a lot has changed in the Raleigh, North Carolina native's life, but one thing he said has remained the same is his love and adoration for his home state.

"You know, for decades North Carolina was actually the progressive beacon in the South. We had the best roads and the best schools, because back then, the loudest voices in our government were progressives who actually made sure our state was always moving forward."

The 43-year-old noted that while a lot has changed since then, he hopes to be the one to get the state on the right path for the betterment of its citizens by advocating for common-sense policies

In his announcement, Aiken also came for "white nationalists" who he said were, "taking up all the oxygen in the room."

"From stopping climate change and systemic racism and income inequality and gun violence, to securing voting rights and free healthcare and a woman's right to choose; [Democrats] are the one's who are gonna solve the country's biggest problems, and we are the ones who are gonna defend our most precious rights," Aiken said.
