New York is looking to hire a "rat czar" and it's willing to pay good money
New York, New York - The Big Apple is looking for a "rat czar" to help fight the city's large rat population, and they are willing to pay big money to the right fit for the job.
On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adam's office posted a job listing in search of a new "Director of Rodent Mitigation."
Adam's needs someone that is "highly motivated and somewhat bloodthirsty, determined to look at all solutions from various angles, including improving operational efficiency, data collection, technology innovation, trash management, and wholesale slaughter."
Potential applicants also need to have a "swashbuckling attitude, crafty humor, and general aura of badassery."
Just to show how serious the mayor is on filling the role, the city is offering a salary of $120,000-$170,000.
In November, the mayor signed four bills as a part of his "Get Stuff Clean" initiative that aimed to fight the rats. He described the move as "vital to vibrant neighborhoods and our city's economic recovery. "
According to pest control company Orkin, NYC is the "second-rattiest" city, beaten out by Chicago, which has held the top spot for the past eight years.
Mayor Eric Adams plugged the position on Twitter, writing: "If you have the drive, determination, and killer instinct needed to fight New York City’s relentless rat population – then your dream job awaits."
