Mom finds drugs in her son's Happy Meal in Alabama McDonald's
Auburn, Alabama - Shirlee Marchesseault was lost for words when she took a look into her son's Happy Meal.
The mom was ready to fish the toy out of the box after buying the meal at a McDrive in Auburn, Alabama, in early July. Instead, she found herself holding four packs of Suboxone, a drug designed to help recovering addicts cope with the withdrawal symptoms.
Speaking to CBS13, the woman described her shock and anger at the time: "I didn't even know what to do at that point, so I called the police."
Marchesseault then drove back to the restaurant, where she met with an officer to give a statement.
Shortly after, Auburn police reported that they are working with McDonald's to determine the source of the Suboxone.
Restaurant owner speaks up
The mother was greatly relieved that her son hadn't ingested any of the drug as he had eaten most of his meal, but expressed another concern: "I'm just wondering like, 'How often does this happen?' (...) It shouldn't be in the hands of any child. It's dangerous."
Meanwhile, Taylor Goble, the owner of the restaurant, commented on the incident.
"The police were able to substantiate this was an unfortunate mistake. We take this situation seriously and have updated procedures in our restaurant to help prevent this from happening again," she said.
Officials did not explain how the drug ended up in a Happy Meal of all places.
