Per CNN, Bertino openly admitted to working with other members of the gang to violently overturn the results of the 2020 election by storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

He also pled guilty to unlawfully possessing firearms, which he was caught with back in March in his home state of North Carolina.

Prosecutors have recommended a sentence of up to five years in prison, but seditious conspiracy – a charge dating back to the civil war – can bring a maximum of 20 years behind bars.

Bertino is reportedly cooperating with the Justice Department's investigation into the Proud Boys, which may help in similar upcoming trials.

The seditious conspiracy charge is the most severe given out so far to a member of the group so far. Henry "Enrique" Tarrio, another ex-leader of the Proud Boys, also faces the same accusation, as does Elmer "Stewart" Rhodes, the head of the far-right Oath Keepers militia group.

Their trials, along with those of other Proud Boys and Oath Keepers members, have been scheduled for December.
