Law enforcement officers on Thursday fatally shot a felony suspect at a parking ramp in a city still reeling from the high-profile police killings of George Floyd and Daunte Wright, the Star Tribune reported.

They said the man "failed to comply and produced a handgun, resulting in task force members firing upon the subject."

Witnesses reported hearing a volley of shots.

"There were about one or two police cars on the top of the ramp [and then] about five more," a bartender nearby reported. "When [all the cars] got to the top, there was eight to 12 shots. [Officers] grabbed the girl … and put her in handcuffs."

Another woman living close by said she heard more than a dozen shots, followed by a short pause and then more shots.

The victim, whose identity remains unknown, was pronounced dead on the scene. A female companion in the car at the time of the shooting received minor injuries from the shattering glass.

The officers involved have since been placed on administrative leave, a US Marshals spokesperson said. Minneapolis police were reportedly not involved in the incident.

Protesters gathered near the scene that evening and remained until police cleared the streets at 10:00 PM.
