January 6 rioter who dragged cop into mob gets long prison sentence
Washington DC - A Tennessee man who dragged a former capitol police officer into a mob during the January 6 attack on the Capitol has been given a lengthy prison sentence.
On Thursday, Albuquerque Cosper Head (43), who has been detained since April 2021, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
He has been accused, and plead guilty, for attacking officers that were defending the capitol building, particularly former officer Michael Fanone.
Fanone testified that he recalled Head "choke me and drag me out into the vicious crowd" where he was repeatedly tased by another rioter. Fanone suffered a heart attack while being beaten by the mob.
"Show Mr. Head the same mercy he showed me on January 6," Fanone told the judge. "None."
Video shown during the trial captured the incident, and Head is seen yelling "I got one!" as he grabs hold of Fanone.
"He was your prey, he was your trophy," US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said to Head of Fanone, who she added "was protecting America."
"The dark shadow of tyranny unfortunately has not gone away," Jackson continued. "There are people who are still disseminating the lie that the election was stolen. They're doing it today. And the people who are stoking that anger for their own selfish purposes, they need to think about the havoc they've wreaked, the lives they've ruined."
Daniel Rodriguez of California, the man that allegedly used the stun gun on officer Michael Fanone, is expected to go to trial in February 2023.
