Tattoo artist who tried to kill his girlfriend arrested years after faking his own death
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - In 2015 Christopher Tomberlin was a wanted man. He had tried to kill his girlfriend and then by all appearances, he had died himself. Six years later the "dead" man has been found living in another state and will finally answer for his crimes.
Tomberlin was living in Georgia in 2015 when he threatened to kill his then-girlfriend, before biting her on the hand and throwing a hatchet at her.
As The Macon Telegraph reported at the time, Tomberlin's throwing fortunately wasn't accurate, and the hatchet lodged in a wooden door instead. His mother had been listening in on the phone and called police on her son.
Shortly after, a warrant was issued for Tomberlin's arrest and the 37-year-old was booked on charges of aggravated assault, battery, and terroristic threats.
But when he made bail and was released from jail, he allegedly faked his own death and fled from authorities, although it's not clear how exactly he managed to do so.
Six years after the bizarre event, US marshals got their hands on some evidence that suggested he might still be alive.
Christopher Tomberlin is arrested by police six years later
A spokesperson for the US Marshal Service told the Daily Mail that Tomberlin had been living in Oklahoma under "multiple aliases" for the past two years, working as a "freelance tattoo artist".
When officers followed up on the information and tracked down the wanted man, he said, he was "surprised."
The Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed on Twitter that the 37-year-old was taken into custody without incident after an investigative search that lasted several weeks.
John Wilson, one of Tomberlin's neighbors for the past two years, told local NBC station KFOR that he was "really shocked" to learn of his neighbor's past, adding that he actually "seemed like a decent guy" to him.
Tomberlin is currently incarcerated in Oklahoma City, but will be extradited in the near future to his home state of Georgia, where he originally attacked his girlfriend.
