Mother seeks justice after son is racially abused and forced to drink urine by schoolmates
Plano, Texas - A mother says that her 13-year-old son has been bullied relentlessly at a Texas high school, reaching a breaking point when he was allegedly forced to drink urine at a sleepover. The disturbing incident was recorded and shared on social media.
School officials and local police are currently investigating the mother's allegations that her son, a Black student at Haggard Middle School in Plano, Texas, has been a victim of abuse.
The mother, Summer Smith, described what had happened to her son, SeMarion Humphrey, in a Facebook post last week.
"Imagine being a happy kid who loves making people smile and having a good time... Imagine your classmates and football team members turning on you and targeting you," she wrote.
"Imagine a group of those same football team members attacking you in the locker-room with a belt... Imagine being hit in the private area and when you tell an adult you are told 'boys will be boys.'"
The mother wrote that a coach had taken away her son's inhaler. He was called racial and homophobic slurs, attacked with a BB gun, and forced to drink urine.
"Imagine being forced to drink the urine of not only a boy who thought was your friend, but his friends...Imagine the video of you drinking the urine being sent to multiple people in your school...Imagine the school telling you they can't do a thing about it because 'the incidents didn't all take place on campus,'" the post continues.
"My son doesn't have to imagine these things, they are all his reality."
Smith followed up with a video showing her son being forced to drink from a cup filled with yellow liquid. Several people can be heard laughing in the background.
Users all across the US are enraged over the incident
According to a GoFundMe set up for the boy, the bullying incident happened at a recent sleepover with a few of his former teammates who were all white.
"Semarion was ecstatic when a former teammate invited him to a sleepover. But little did he know what had been planned for him," the description reads.
Kim Cole, an attorney for the family, said she thinks the incident was "a racially motivated hate crime," as has been reported by NBC.
"SeMarion was bullied at school for over a year. So much so that he had to quit playing football, which he loved," Cole wrote in a Facebook post last Friday.
The Plano Independent School District said they are currently "working with the campus and local law enforcement to actively investigate the matter."
Meanwhile, people are calling out the violent abuse and have been urging the school and local police to hold the bullies responsible.
