"When she didn't show back up at 6:15 which she usually does, I got worried," her husband, Steven Mikeska, told KHOU, his voice shaking. "I started calling. She didn't answer the phone."

He knew something bad had happened, so he decided to go look for her.

When he arrived at the gym, Steven saw her car. "And then I see her laying in the parking lot with a sheet over. I knew that was her. I could recognize her," he continued, brokenhearted.

According to Houston police, the victim had just parked her car in the parking lot when an SUV pulled into the lot and parked almost next to her. Two of the three suspects, who have been identified as a male driver and two male passengers, got out of the car.

A surveillance video of the incident released by police shows Mikeska walking toward the gym's entrance when the suspects appear to call out to her. The victim starts running as one of the men fires a gunshot at Mikeska, who collapses near the entrance of the gym.

The suspects then get back into the car and flee.

Suspects tried to rob another woman about an hour earlier

About an hour earlier that day, a woman reported an aggravated robbery and described suspects matching those in the surveillance video who tried to steal the woman's car, but failed because it was inoperable.

The suspects were described as possibly Hispanic males in their early 20s. Their vehicle was described as a white Chevrolet SUV.

Police are now urging anyone with information to come forward and call 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

"She loved everybody. She was a huge light in this family," Elsa Mikeska's daughter, Lauren Harrigan, told KHOU and continued to ask "anybody that knows anything to please come forward."

"She wanted to see her grandbabies grow up. And they took that from her," Harley Mikeska, another daughter, said.
