In 2019, 33-year-old Shatavia Walls testified in court that she had been shot by a gang member from the Louis H. Pink Houses in East New York.

According to People, shortly after, flyers calling her a "rat" were posted around the area where she lived.

On July 4 in 2020, Walls got into an argument with members of the Ninedee Gang about lighting fireworks in their housing project.

That's when she was apparently called a "snitch" by Maliek Miller (27), one of the gang members who have been taken into custody since, before he fired a gunshot into the air.

Prosecutors now believe that the members then began plotting to kill Walls.

Only a few days later, on the evening of July 7, 2020, Walls was shot several times while walking through a courtyard. She died 10 days later of her severe injuries.

Ballistic evidence recovered from the crime scene allegedly revealed that one of the weapons used to shoot Walls matched the gun fired by Miller on July 4.

On Monday, prosecutors announced that Quintin Green (20), Chayanne Fernandez (21) and Miller were taken into custody in connection with the murder.

A fourth man called Kevin Wint (27) has also been detained and charged with being an accessory after the fact.
