The Highway 141 and I-44 store in Valley Park, Missouri, voted 11-6 in favor of unionizing. The election was overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.

The Valley Park store first went public with their intent to unionize in April. "We are called 'partners,' yet somehow our worth – as the backbone of this company – is not equitable amongst other, and far fewer, shareholders," the local organizing committee wrote in a letter to Starbucks' Interim CEO Howard Schultz at the time

"It is time our labor is recognized – and respected – with a competitive, livable wage now, rather than the false promise of tomorrow," the letter continued.

"We seek to establish a true partnership with each other, and call upon you to sign the Fair Election Principles in commitment to our partners' autonomy without fear of intimidation or reprisal."

With Thursday's big win, there are now more than 185 unionized Starbucks stores around the country, including six in Missouri.

Valley Park baristas speak out after their union win

Valley Park workers celebrated their success but also remained focused on their end goal: a fair contract for all employees.

"No company will care about its workers and their well-being without first considering what *they* have to gain or lose from doing so. It's up to us… to speak up and hold companies like Starbucks accountable," baristas said after their vote count, according to Workers United.

"The bare minimum will never be enough."
