London, UK - Tom Hale couldn't believe his eyes as he opened the cupboard under his counter for the first time since moving into his apartment two years ago.

Did this mean that, for years, he'd been washing dishes by hand for nothing?

It's hard to believe, but Tom only just discovered a dishwasher in his kitchen that he had no idea existed!

What a gift – and what hilarious stupidity at the same time.

Chuckling, the young man took a few photos of his weird discovery and shared them on Twitter.

"I am in shock," the surprised user wrote along with the two pictures. "Lived in this flat for 2 years and only just discovered TODAY that it has a dishwasher."

Until now, he had always thought it was nothing but a decorative handle on an immovable section of his kitchen counter.

"I've wasted days of my life washing up!" he wrote.

The post has since been shared more than 12,000 times, with thousands of users having a good laugh at Tom.

"I just can't stop laughing, how did you not know you owned a dishwasher?" one of them wrote. Another added: "Do you think you'll ever get over this find?"

A few others couldn't resist the opportunity to mock the young man: "There might be some rooms you haven't found yet. Try pulling at the big wooden things in the walls."

Unfortunately, Tom did not reveal exactly why he only decided to jiggle the handle now.

Instead, he simply started joking along with his followers: "It has changed me forever."
