The Kardashians' season two finale highlights the show's fatal flaw
Calabasas, California - The Kardashians' season two finale wrapped everything up a little too nicely, and we're not sure how to feel about it.
Well, the second season of Hulu's original series about the Kar-Jenners has come and gone, and the finale left viewers with many thoughts.
Kylie Jenner revealed at the very end of the episode that, despite previously announcing she had changed her son's name, it has yet to actually happen. Thus, his name is still legally "Wolf."
Though viewers followed along on Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's wedding fitting journey in season two, they didn't get to see any part of their actual Italian wedding day in the finale. Sure, everyone witnessed the Kardashian clan's photo dumps on Instagram from the big day several months back. But it would've been the icing on the cake to see some behind-the-scenes footage of the calm before the storm.
Therein lies the major difference between season one of The Kardashians, and season two. As we've previously pointed out, it seems like the Kar-Jenners really dialed the revealing nature of reality TV back for the show's second season, and it's made the episodes drag on.
Given the level of attention the Kardashian-Jenners receive from the media, and how active they are on their own Insta and TikTok pages, it's obvious that most people – especially those watching their reality TV show – already know the surface level shenanigans they chose to recap for the umpteenth time on season two.
Season two of The Kardashians lacks the tea-spilling standard set by season one
Do we really need to see things like Kim Kardashian's involvement in the Balenciaga fashion show at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris that we already knew happened without spilling some hot tea in the process? No.
Yet, that's what viewers saw most of during The Kardashians' season two finale, along with Khloé's first days with her newborn baby boy she had via surrogate.
While we totally get and respect the family's desire to keep some parts of their lives private, It begs to be stated that season one of the original Hulu series was far more revealing than what season two shaped up to be.
Given that fans were handed the equivalent of a backstage pass to the Kar-Jenners day-to-day lives in season one, the decision to drastically dial it back for season two was glaringly obvious.
After all, this is reality TV, and with that comes a level of expectation that viewers will see the show's subjects in their naturally dramatic element. But when an entire season feels like a highlight reel of the Kar-Jenners respective IG accounts, it's a bit disappointing as a viewer.
There's a way to give sneak peaks without giving everything away. Those who tuned into The Kardashians' season two finale got a glimpse of this, as the final minutes of the episode saw Khloé introducing her new baby boy to her sisters Kourtney and Kim Kardashian while hiding his face from the cameras and keeping his name under wraps.
Perhaps the series will take this into consideration for its third season, which Kourtney confirmed was already being filmed back in October.
For now, fans of the Kar-Jenners can stream season one and two of The Kardashians on Hulu.
