The Bachelor: Season 27 kicks off in cringe style
Los Angeles, California - The premiere of Zach Shallcross' season of The Bachelor saw many franchise firsts with a healthy dose of cringe on the side.
Season 27 has officially begun, and those who were fearful that Zach Shallcross may be a bit of a bore were proven right. At least, for now.
After this season's slew of single women made their grand entrances at the Bachelor Mansion, with one even getting a driveway smooch from the leading man in a franchise first, Zach got down to business.
One woman – Brianna – was gifted "America's first impression rose" at The Bachelorette season 19 finale before the season even started filming, marking her safe for the first rose ceremony.
Zach's first impression rose went to Greer, which shattered hearts. This was particularly true for Madison from North Dakota, as she as was clearly trying to force a love connection with the tech executive that was so obviously not there.
This led her to confront the Bachelor ahead of the rose ceremony, which forced him to stay "true" to his heart and send her packing.
With two women safe, Zach proceeded to hand out 12 roses at the rose ceremony, inevitably sending over a dozen women home with shattered dreams of finding love, or lasting long enough on the show to score some stellar sponsorship deals IRL.
Now that The Bachelor's season 27 premiere has come and gone, we must state that two-hour episodes seem extremely unnecessary, especially when half of the episode is taken up by host Jesse Palmer doing voice-over work that no one asked for.
Will the franchise figure out how to liven up Zach's season after ignoring Bachelor Nation's lead requests for the umpteenth time? Find out when The Bachelor returns on January 30 at 8 PM EST on ABC.
