The Bachelor Clayton Echard apologizes to the one who was bullied away

Los Angeles, California – The Bachelor himself has apologized to Elizabeth Corrigan after watching the show back in utter disgust of what actually went down between her and Shanae Ankney.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and that sentiment couldn't be more accurate for Clayton Echard.

Viewers have watched Shanae relentlessly bully Elizabeth into a corner for nearly three weeks whilst wondering how Clayton could be so blind to such torment.

Sure, Elizabeth never brought the specifics of Shanae's flawed character or hateful words, shaming her for being ADHD and neurodivergent to light.

But did mirroring Michelle Obama's, "When they go low, we go high" mindset in the face of conflict and confrontation warrant such mistreatment and disregard from Clayton?

The answer is unequivocally no, and it looks like the 28-year-old Bachelor fully agrees he messed up big time.

On Tuesday, Clayton posted a lengthy note on his Twitter addressed to none other than Elizabeth, fully owning up to his shortcomings, inactions, and flawed judgment.

"I'm sorry, Elizabeth, for what you're going through. I wish I could have seen what was happening when I wasn't there," he began, adding, "I would have sent Shanae home immediately for making fun of you for being neurodivergent, had I known."

While he might not have known that Shanae's intentions were purely evil and her mean girl ways were the cause of unrest amongst, well, every other person besides him, all he had to do was ask.

Mental health matters – even for Shanae

Before she was sent packing by Clayton, Elizabeth explicitly told him to ask the rest of the women in the Bachelor Mansion about Shanae's antics and vicious verbal attacks.

Unfortunately, he decided to walk away from the conversation at the time, chalking it up to no more than nonsensical female drama.

But regret seems to be haunting Clayton, and seeing things unfold from a bird's-eye view on a weekly basis has proven eye-opening for The Bachelor.

"Overall, the experience for me watching hasn't been fun, simple because I'm seeing all the damage that I caused. I really meant well, but my actions weren't always the best as I now can see the repercussions from my decisions," Clayton wrote.

In the days since her departure, Bachelor Nation has rallied behind Elizabeth. While she could have taken this as an opportunity to grill both Clayton and Shanae, she once again chose class, dignity, and respect.

Elizabeth noted on Instagram that while she was appreciative of the love being sent her way, she reminded her followers that everyone's mental health matters – even Shanae's and Clayton's.

As for having an honest and open conversation, Clayton said he was looking forward to hosting one on the upcoming Women Tell All special, writing on Twitter, "It's important to hold people accountable, including myself."

"I'm ready," Elizabeth responded.

Though the premiere date for the Women Tell All special has yet to be announced, it's certain to be a juicy, jaw-dropping one.
