The story begins with the main character, Seong Gi-hun, played by Jung-jae.
Gi-hun is an irresponsible, gambling addict who's in severe debt, financially relies on his mother, and can't care for his daughter.
So when a stranger offers him money to play games, why wouldn't he jump at the chance?
However, his decision results in his abduction to an island, where he awakes in a dorm with 455 other people also partaking in the game.
All the players are in some sort of financial crisis, leading to each of them wanting to find any way to clear their debts.
Things quickly go awry once it's revealed these silly childhood games turn into violent bloodbaths, shocking betrayals, and a searing critique of the desperate conditions that drive people to desperate measures.
The thrilling limited series aired on September 17 and is currently Netflix's most streamed show around the world.
While each episode leaves viewers saying WTF, the impeccable cinematography, eye-pleasing design, and great storyline keeps everyone on their toes till the very end.
Not only has the show developed a huge following, it also started major trends on social media. Especially on Tik Tok, where users started the Dalgona candy challenge based on the game in the show .
It's too soon to tell if the series will get a sequel or spinoff, but Squid Game has definitely raised the bar for Netflix shows!
