On Thursday, Netflix announced that its true-crime docuseries, Tiger King, will be returning for a second season.

Though the streaming platform failed to provide a release date for the upcoming season, they did share a teaser image of Joe Exotic, or Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, seemingly on a call from the confines of prison.

The first season of Tiger King debuted on March 20, 2020 – around the same time the world was going into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With millions of people stuck at home without much else to do, they turned to Netflix – and Tiger King – to cure their boredom. According to Variety, the docuseries amassed over 34 million US views in its first 10 days on the platform.

A storyline for Tiger King 2 has not yet been announced, but fans of the show shouldn't count on Carol Baskin's return.

After the news broke of Tiger King 2, Baskin made it very clear that she "refused" to be part of its second season, telling The US Sun, "There is no explanation for such a betrayal," in reference to her immense distaste for how she was portrayed in season one.

The first season of Tiger King gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look into the dark worlds of big cat conservationists such as Baskin and collectors like Joe Exotic.

Along with Tiger King 2, Netflix also announced four other "true crime" titles coming to the platform in 2022: Bad Vegan, Trust No One: The Hun For The Crypto King, The Puppet Master: Hunting The Ultimate Conman, and The Tinder Swindler.
