Jimmy Kimmel accused of "white man privilege" after Emmys stunt
Los Angeles, California - Jimmy Kimmel's decision to insert himself into Quinta Brunson's acceptance speech at the 2022 Emmys has landed him in hot water, with people accusing the comedian of upstaging the Abbott Elementary creator's big win.
It all began when Kimmel joined actor Will Arnett in presenting the Emmy award for outstanding writing for a comedy series with.
The pair engaged in a comedic bit, with Arnett dragging Kimmel on-and-off the stage and joking that the 64-year-old host was drunk after he "got into the skinny margaritas."
But the late night talkshow host didn't stop even when Brunson came on to accept her award. Kimmel just continued the bit by lying on the ground during her speech.
Though the late-night host's silly routine seemed innocent, some fans at home didn't it to be that funny. In fact, many called Kimmel out for distracting the audience from Brunson's big moment – which, to be fair, is an accurate assessment.
That led some social media users to accuse Kimmel of "white man privilege."
Quinta Brunson says she wasn't "upset" by Jimmy Kimmel's
Brunson also addressed Kimmel's stunt, with the star seeming unfazed by the whole incident.
"I don't know. I don't really, I know Jimmy Kimmel and I don't know. I felt like the bit didn't bother me that much," the writer told reporters in the Emmys press room.
"Jimmy gave me my first big late night spot and was one of the first people to see Abbott, and one of the first people. He Instagram messaged me that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time, and he was so excited it was going to be on ABC."
Brunson did joke that she "may feel differently" when she appears on Kimmel's show this week.
"I don't know. Tomorrow, maybe I'll be mad at him. I'm going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don't know what's going to happen."
