Jeffrey Dahmer Halloween costumes draw strong reaction from victim's mom
Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The popularity of the Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is now inspiring some to dress up as the serial killer for Halloween, which one victim's mom is horrified about.
Shirley Hughes, the mother pf Tony Hughes, one of Dahmer's victims, told TMZ that the costumes exploit the families of victims and urged people to stay away from them.
She went on to describe Dahmer as pure evil, and told the outlet that she didn't understand how people that choose to dress like him can sleep at night.
The infamous murderer's look – the wire-framed glasses, blond hair, and retro-style shirts – is an easy ensemble to put together, and some have been doing just that.
Shirley Hughes and other family members of victims have criticized the show since its release. She shared that families have not made a dime from Netflix or retailers that sell costumes.
Tony was killed in 1991 at the age of 31, and was the 12th victim of Dahmer's. He was deaf, having lost his hearing as a child, and communicated through sign language and writing.
He was portrayed in the sixth episode of the series, which his mother has called inaccurate.
Hughes has also said the release of the show has "re-victimized" families.
