House of the Dragon gets another green light after record-breaking debut
New York, New York - Game of Thrones' highly-anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon (HOD) has been renewed for a second season, just after its huge debut.
Days before the HBO Max series' second episode is scheduled to drop, the show based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood has already been renewed for a sophomore season.
On Friday, the renewal was announced by Deadline following HOD's premiere episode's record-breaking debut. HBO said the singular episode garnered over 20 million viewers nationally.
In a statement, the Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi dished, "We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one."
"Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see-TV.
"We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with Season 2."
The show's official Instagram also confirmed the news with a fiery reel, aptly captioned, "Fire reigns. #HouseoftheDragon has been renewed for Season 2."
The prequel follows the rise and fall of House Targaryen and is set nearly 200 years before the events of GOT.
