Henry Cavill to exit The Witcher in shocking cast shake-up
Los Gatos, California - Fans of Netflix's The Witcher are in shock after leading star Henry Cavill announced his departure from the show and revealed his replacement.
The 39-year-old actor has been starring as Geralt of Rivia in the hit TV show for two seasons now, but it looks like his time is up.
Cavill shared the news on Instagram, where he revealed that he would be departing from the role after the upcoming third season.
"My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4," he wrote.
Cavill then announced the most shocking part of the news, revealing that his iconic role would be recast after his exit.
Liam Hemsworth has been tapped to step into the role of Geralt of Rivia.
Liam Hemsworth is announced as Henry Cavill's replacement
Cavill gave the 32-year-old actor his blessing in his Instagram post.
"As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men," Cavill wrote.
In his own post, Hemsworth shared his enthusiasm about taking over the role.
"Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I'm honoured that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure," the Hunger Games star wrote. "I may have some big boots to fill, but I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."
Fans have expressed their concerns about the casting, as many believe that Cavill's performance is simply too iconic to replace.
Though nothing has been confirmed, speculation is rampant that Cavill's departure is connected to his recently announced return as Superman in the DCEU.
