Grey's Anatomy teasers reveal what's to come for season 19
Los Angeles, California - Fans have finally gotten a small clue into what the upcoming season of Grey's Anatomy will have in store.
In a new interview, actor Kevin McKidd said the new season of the long-running medical drama will feel "like we're going back to the beginning."
"We have this amazing group of new interns, brilliant, young, vibrant actors who are really passionate," the 49-year-old spilled. "So it's making room for that."
Yet, the show's new episodes will have a throwback feel.
"We're not really rebooting, but it's definitely that pilot episode when Sandra Oh and T.R. Knight first kind of walked into the hospital. We're kind of doing that again. And it's very exciting to feel that we're all part of that," he said.
McKidd has played surgeon Owen Hunt since season five. Fellow actor James Pickens Jr., who plays Richard Webber on the series, posted a photo on Instagram last week with the show's new actors.
"Let’s give a warm welcome to the new Interns of the Grey’s family," he wrote. "Excited for season 19."
Ellen Pompeo is said to have recently scaled back her return to Grey's Anatomy
ABC announced in January that Grey's Anatomy had been renewed for a record 19th season. It is the longest-running prime-time medical drama series in TV history, and remains the network's number one show among adults aged 18 to 48.
It still stars Ellen Pompeo - who has been outspoken about wanting the to show to end – and the renewal of the new season reportedly hinged upon her return and bumped her up to serve as its executive producer. Earlier this month, reports claimed she has since scaled down her acting commitment on the show and will likely only appear in eight episodes, and instead star in a new limited series on Hulu.
Many otherGrey's Anatomy fan favorites, including Oh, Katherine Heigel, Patrick Dempsey, and Jesse Williams, already departed from the show seasons ago.
Season 19 of Grey's Anatomy is scheduled to air October 6 at 9 PM ET on ABC.
