Game of Thrones spin-offs may be "shelved" as George R.R. Martin talks HBO Max shakeup
New York, New York - Amid the ongoing turmoil at HBO Max, Game of Thrones (GOT) creator George R.R. Martin has issued a warning to fans about the beloved series' spin-off shows.
HBO Max shocked fans earlier this month by axing fan-favorite series Westworld and subsequently removing it from the streaming service entirely, along with nixing several other shows.
Westworld's removal was particularly surprising as it was an HBO original, rather than an HBO Max program. Many believed HBO shows would be safe, but the decision proved that wasn't the case.
Fans soon turned their concern to other huge series like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, both of which also belong to HBO.
On Wednesday, Martin shared some surprising news about the impact of the ongoing changes, on the planned Game of Thrones spin-offs.

In a blog post, the 74-year-old author said he had been hard at work on several exciting projects, including an upcoming season two of House of the Dragon and The Winds of Winter, the long-anticipated sixth installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series.
Martin confirmed there are "several" GOT successor shows in development with HBO. However, he also admitted that the changes at HBO Max have "certainly" impacted the franchise.
While some spin-offs are progressing, he confirms that none have been officially greenlit just yet.
"A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead. You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf," he said.
Though it may not be the news fans were hoping for, it seems that there is still some hope for the epic franchise to come.
