Friday the 13th is getting a prequel as Jason returns!
Los Angeles, California - Halloween may be over, but there's still good news for fans of slasher scares, as Friday the 13th will soon be coming to TV screens.
The horror classic will soon get its own streaming series dedicated to its psycho killer Jason Voorhees.
After Jason made his first appearance in 1980 in Friday the 13th, directed by Sean S. Cunningham, the character has become a horror legend.
Now the serial killer will return once again.
As reported by Variety, Peacock will be the home of an upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series titled Crystal Lake.
Not much is known about the show's content, but it seems the series will return to the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, where Jason drowned in a lake as a young boy in the franchise's first film.
Perhaps after decades of screen time, fans will finally learn what sparked the killer's murderous desires, and more about his background.
Friday the 13th prequel has fans hoping it will arrive in time for Halloween 2023
Bryan Fuller will serve as the new series' showrunner, executive producer, and writer, having previously worked on shows such as Heroes, Hannibal, Dead Like Me, and Star Trek: Discovery.
"I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since," Fuller said. "I’m thrilled to be exploring the campgrounds of Crystal Lake."
Together with the Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th is the longest running horror series in film history. Since its first installment, the franchise has included eleven more movies, with a reboot of the original film appearing in 2009.
It is unclear when Crystal Lake will be released, but if fans are lucky, it will hopefully be in time for next spooky season in October 2023.
