Emmys announce air date and new night for 2022 ceremony
Los Angeles, California – The Emmys unveiled the date for its 2022 award show, which will take place on a Monday night.
On Wednesday, the Television Academy announced the 74th Emmy Awards will take place on September 12.
This year, the show will be broadcast live on NBC. Because the network airs Sunday Night Football, the ceremony will take place on a Monday.
This marks the first time the Emmys will occur on a Monday since the 2018 show, which was hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live.
A location for the forthcoming ceremony has not yet been named, nor has a host or producer. Traditionally, the show has taken place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The 2021 award show was the exception, as it took place across the street at the Event Deck at LA Live.
Nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards will be announced on July 12. The 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards is slated to take place one week prior to NBC's Emmy Awards telecast, and will take place over two consecutive nights from September 3-4.
The Television Academy noted that an edited presentation of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be broadcast on September 10 at 8 PM EST on FXX.
The date for the 74th Emmy Awards is a week earlier than normal, as the ceremony has historically taken place in late September, right before the fall television season kicks off.
The 74th Emmy Awards will air live coast-to-coast on September 12 from 8-11:00 PM EST on NBC.
