Degrassi reboot gets sacked by HBO Max
Los Angeles, California - The Degrassi reboot ordered by HBO Max has shockingly been scrapped.
It doesn't look like the highly-anticipated reboot of the popular TV show will be making its debut after all.
On Thursday, Variety confirmed the revamped Canadian high school drama franchise won't be coming to the small screens as planned.
The Degrassi reboot was originally picked up for 10 episodes by the streaming app earlier this year. Per the outlet, it would've been the the sixth show in the Degrassi franchise, which includes spinoffs The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and Degrassi: Next Class.
The most-popular in the bunch, Degrassi: The Next Generation, featured Canadian star Aubrey Graham – who later became the infamous rapper Drake.
The Degrassi series to-be was described as a "character-driven" one-hour drama set in Toronto "about the high school experience and the thrilling, often painful journey of self-discovery," per a summary from HBO Max.
"The show travels deep into the hearts and homes of diverse, complicated characters, as they struggle to find their new normal, reaching for hope, redemption and love."
Unfortunately – or fortunately, depending on where one stands with reboots – the revival isn't the first show or movie to get scrapped by the streaming platform.
Following the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger in April, several more planned projects have gotten the boot, including the shocking cancellation of the DC Extended Universe's movie Batgirl, which had fans outraged.
Degrassi fans are now feeling it too.
