Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans devastated over sudden announcement
New York, New York - It's one of the most successful shows on Netflix, winning both Golden Globe and Emmy awards, but now the hit comedy show Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to end.
According to Deadline and TVLine, NBC announced the cancellation of its popular show about a police department in Brooklyn, New York. The eighth season will still be broadcast, but after that, the comedy series will come to an end.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine initially aired on Fox. The first season received a Golden Globe for best comedy series. Lead actor Andy Samberg (42) was honored at the same award ceremony as best actor in a comedy series for his role as Detective Jake Peralta. Both seasons one and two received Emmy awards.
After five seasons, Fox dropped the comedy and NBC took over, but this time, they say it's over for good.
When exactly the eighth season will air is still unclear.
Work on the ten episodes comprising the eighth season was interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. TVLine also reported that series star Terry Crews (52) announced in July 2020 that the script would be revised in light of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests.
Dan Goor, the executive producer and co-creator of the show, released a statement on Twitter, thanking the cast and crew, while describing the decision as "the best way to honor the characters, the story and our viewers."
Both Deadline and TVLine stated that the earliest air date would be fall 2021.
