David Spade to join rotating cast of hosts for new season of Bachelor in Paradise
Sayulita, Mexico – The upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise will look a bit different from those of the past. With Chris Harrison still in the dog house, ABC executives oddly called on comedians and celebrities like David Spade to fill the void.
Things are getting strange in paradise this season, and it has nothing to do with the contestants.
With longtime host Chris Harrison still absent from the franchise for the foreseeable future, ABC made an unexpected pivot to fill the role.
Rather than enlisting a fan-favorite from a previous season of The Bachelor or Bachelorette, the network decided to bring in comedians to take over as guest-hosts, according to people People.
Out of all the actors and comedians to choose from, it might seem odd to go for David Spade. The actor has yet to appear as a host on a reality TV show, let alone a dating one.
But the 56-year-old swears he's a big Bachelor fan, and even gushed about the show on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March 2020.
When asked by Kimmel what his favorite branch of the franchise was, he quipped, "It's all about the same. I just make fun of whatever's in front of me."
The actor's interest in The Bachelor isn't that much of a secret to those who follow him on Instagram.
When there's a season on-air, no matter whether it's The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, or Bachelor in Paradise, Spade hits up Instagram to live-react to, and make fun of, the on-screen drama in a very public manner.
The need for guests hosts at all comes after Chris Harrison faced major backlash for his defense of former contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who once took part in an Antebellum-themed party.
The longtime host for all aspects of the Bachelor franchise said he was taking time to step back and educate himself.
The premiere for the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise will air on ABC Monday, August 16.
